Well they say that imitation must be the sincerest form of flattery. If that's the case Steven Wilson must really be blushing. Abigails Ghost is an exciting new band from Louisiana that have set their sights on developing a modern progressive rock sound. The bio on the band is pretty sparse - apparently they are pretty young but it's obvious that they are exceptionally good musicians. Although it's clear that Tool and Rush are influences on Abigails Ghost the pink elephant in the room that must be addressed is how much they sound like Porcupine Tree. There are parts of this disc that you would think were out-takes from In Absentia or Deadwing. It's quite startling actually. The thing is that these guys pull it off so well that it's an attraction rather than a distraction. Let's fact it Porcupine Tree has in themselves become an influence on many bands today. Abigails Ghost is one of them - they just do it better than most. As much as I love old school prog I can appreciate something that is as well crafted as this. If you like your prog to sound fresh and current than you can't go wrong with this disc. I can't wait to see where they go from here. Highest recommendation. A buy or die release.

this album is filled with songs of different types which keeps the listener interested the whole way through. the melodies, rhythms, harmonies and overall elements are fantastic. the lead singer has a great voice too, very relaxing yet strong

I was introduced to this band my one of my prog buddies, I was a little turned-off at first. But this is really a great album, mediocre production. But it will keep calling you back for more. Stellar musicians right down to the singer who can both put you to sleep and make your head explode at the same time. Highly recommended to Prog Rock fans! -Prog Proulxski

Enjoyed this one a lot despite the less-than-stellar production. Solid prog rock, somewhat in the vein of PT but still unique enough to stand on its own. These guys have something meaningful to say and they do an admirable job here. Would love to hear what they would sound like if our brother in crime, Ken G. signed them to The Laser's Edge... :-) Leyth

very very interesting band that could get an important place in the scene... PT clone ? maybe maybe in some ideas.. but this band share some fresh references with nice transitions, introspectives atmospheres and melodic chorus like not so much bands.. great expectations to this band in some future..

I don't agree with the PT clone comparisons, as I've seen the same situation with earlier PT being called the "new Pink Floyd" and "PF clones". A young band almost always takes time to find their own sound and I think this album is a step in the right direction. Most musicians in their late teens and early twenties, as these guys are, would probably kill to sound like this without the big, major label productions.
