1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars great progressive metal album, October 20, 2008 By Michael A. Carra "mike carra" (bronx, new york) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: The Immunity Zone (Audio CD) so the new andromeda album is here. andromeda continue the sound they have built for themselves over the years with a few changes. first off "the immunity zone" is much for riff driven than all their previous albums, but that is not actually a bad thing. The riffs are stronger than ever on this album, and there are very progressive parts in all the songs even if all of them are not flooding with solos. This album has allot of great keyboard parts in it, and some of the best drumming you can find in a band. I am a drummer myself and i was utterly blown away by the drum playing. My only real complaint is there are not as many solos in this album as usual. Almost the entire first half of the album has no solos. Official solos do not kick in till track 5 "Worst enemy" but at the same time the first half of the album is still very progressive, and it is great! Plus from that point on you get enough solos to make anyone happy. The last song "Veil of illumination" is a prog masterpiece. Clocking in on over 17 mins long it wont disappoint. It is by far one of the craziest most progressive songs i ever heard, and the guitar and keyboard playing on it is amazing! amazing progressive metal for fans of dream theater, evergrey, and pagans mind

This one did not say much to me musically. Chimera was really good and II=I is still their best in my mind. They seem to be on somewhat of a downward quality spiral of late but I may just be missing that they are not in the same musical space anymore. Still, these guys are always original and out-of-the-box enough to warrant support. Leyth

I thought this was a big improvement over "Chimera". I simply don't listen to "Chimera" in spite of the ridiculous musicianship that this band has. This disc has more direction and aggression for me, putting it close in my mind to II=I. They still have not (in my opinion) found the formula that made my jaw drop the first time I heard "Extension of the Wish", but this is a big improvement in my opinion over "Chimera". Dynamite musicians.

As author of the original review, I must apologise as I did this CD an injustice...for which I apologise. And thanks for the last reviewer for making me take more time to digest and appreciate this CD. Yes this is a very good CD, in fact in places it is brilliant and represents some of the best material Andromeda have written - take the last track 'Veil of Illumination' at 17 mins long this is an awesome track. Throughout this CD, special mention should be made to the drumming. Everyone talks about Portnoy, who of course is brilliant...but this guy has some amazing talent of his own (check out the double kick technique). In conclusion, better than Chimera and possible better than II-1...Definately worth a purchase..SC UK
