Beardfish - Mammoth (CD/DVD)

Sixth album from one of the leading lights of the current progressive rock movement. Led by keyboardist/vocalist Rikard Sjöblom, Beardfish manage to utilize vintage instruments, create long form intricate compositions, but they do it in a way that doesn't sound retro at all. They still use Gentle Giant and Zappa as musical guideposts but its much less overt than in the past. Part of the reason for a more contemporary sound likes in the tone of guitarist David Zackrisson. While he's not afraid to solo he also adds in a nice amount of heavy near-metallic crunch.

This set included a bonus DVD with nearly 2 hours of live footage (from De Bouerderij in Netherlands) as well as the "making of Mammoth". To these ears this band can do no wrong. Highest recommendation.

A prime example of artful rock with an amazing sense for detail. Inspired by the music from the 70s and fascinated by the creative freedom in Prog Rock in general, Beardfish have created their own brand of this grand classic style of music and rendered homage to their idles such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Genesis, Frank Zappa and many more.
