In addition to supporting doom metal, Lee Dorrian's Rise Above Records is spearheading a revival of the sound of early 70s British progressive rock - sometimes referred to as "proto-prog". Blood Ceremony are a new band out of Canada. The quartet is clearly infatuated by Jethro Tull but the overall musicial experience has a dark satanic feel. Think more in terms of Black Widow and Black Sabbath. Its kind of a cliche to cite Ian Anderson as a reference whenever flute is one of the integral instruments used. Sorry to say it but vocalist Alia O'Brien also plays flute and she really does sound a lot like Anderson. There are some jazz influences in her playing that I read one reviewer compare to Herbie Mann and I can see the similarities. One of the albums that upon first listen you would swear it was hidden away in some secret Vertigo tape archive back in 1971. I love this stuff!!!
