Killer debut release from Australia. Caligula's Horse began life as a project from multi-instrumentalist Sam Vallen and Arcane vocalist Jim Grey. The band draws on a variety of influences ranging from Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Pain Of Salvation, and even Dream Theater. I'm even reminded of Haken a bit. Somehow through this amalgam of styles they have cooked up something completely their own. Its strong on atmosphere and melody. Quite moody but Yallen often goes into uber-shred mode that crosses over into djent territory. This one is a real grower. Highest recommendation.
