Amazing collection combines "First Utterance" and "To Keep From Crying" on a 2 cd set along with bonus material. Comus were the archetypal "acid-folk" band. First Utterance was originally released on Dawn Records in 1971. It's a stone cold classic. Utterly creepy and mystical it combines deranged male vocals, gorgeous male/female harmonies, disonant jangly guitars, violin and winds. It's purely mesmerizing and haunting. Comus was a big influence on Mikael Akerfeldt - the title My Arms Your Hearse was extracted from the lyrics to "Drip Drip". To Keep From Crying saw the band on the verge of breaking up right as they were recording their debut for Virgin Records. Released in 1974 it features members of Henry Cow and Gong as guests. It's not nearly as interesting - it's more straight ahead progressive folk - but it does mark the first time it's appeared on CD. This is an essential set.
