Second album from these Norwegian prog revivalists. Helike is a concept album based around the lost continent of Atlantis. Its split into two epic length tracks (would work perfectly for vinyl). The band's sound has a touch of a live in the studio quality and definitely retro in nature. I'm reminded quite a bit of the proggier side of Black Bonzo. There are definite nods to Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Genesis. Vocalist Daniel Maage doesn't display his proficiency on flute as he did on the band's debut but its not really a big deal (but something I felt worth mentioning). Organ and Mellotron samples proliferate as well piano. Think early 70s - not mid - so no significant synth leads to speak of. Stig Are Sund offers up some rather ripping guitar leads. Some guest horns will draw some comparisons to Islands period King Crimson and rightly so. Someone should book these guys at a festival! Highly recommended.
