After an extremely long hiatus, this Italian quartet returns with their third studio album and its quite a stunner. DFA is an instrumental Italian quartet that performed an exciting blend of jazz and symphonic rock not that different from Arti + Mestieri. With their new album, the band seems to have amped up the Canterbury influence. There are passages on this album that sound so much like vintage National Health its scary! At times guitarist Silvio Minella gives you flashes of the Phil Miller dirty fuzz. Keyboardist Alberto Bonomi doesn't quite resort to the pyrotechnics of Dave Stewart, his playing has more of the refinement of Alan Gowen, offering a nice balance between organ and electric piano. The album is filled with long tracks allowing lots of space for solos but it doesn't feel forced as the pacing of the songs have a real fluidity and groove. Definitely a 2008 top 10 candidate. Highest recommendation.
