The first time I heard Simone Simons sing, I was simply floored. Here's a young lady who has such a pure and powerful tone and who delivers her melodies with a deeply-felt conviction that belies her tender age. Fast forward to 2007's The Divine Conspiracy. Now, that golden voice has been matched with this band's most sophisticated and ambitious compositions to date. This is stunning symphonic metal at its best. As expected with Epica, there are some coarse vocals but they fit well within the musical statement and are far less of a detraction than on their first two albums. Highly recommended. Leyth
