First Works is the impressive debut from this Swiss melodic metal band. You would never know this was a self-released production as soon as you hear the production courtesy of Sascha Paeth. The band was put together by keyboardist Markus Geiger and bassist Thomas Brogli some years ago and after a variety of line up changes they've finally come up with the goods. Geiger is the principal songwriter and that's obvious as you listen through the album - there is an abundance of symphonic keyboardsgiving it that big feel but thankfully not that overblown sound that Paeth typically derives. The band has an unusual twist - two singers Andreas Wildi and Andrea Richner. The male/female harmonies work very well and fits the melodic "catchy" approach to the songwriting. The music has tinges of AOR as well as some prog moves without getting too complex. There is a positive vibe through out that fits perfectly. It seems as though there is a buzz developing around this release and it seems inevitable that these guys will ultimately hook up with a label. "First Works" is first class.
