Glass Hammer's 8th album finds little surprises and to these ears that's a good thing. After juggling lineups and different singers the band has gotten back to the basics emphasizing the abilities of founders Steve Babb and Fred Schendel. Longtime member Walter Moore again contributes vocals alongside Babb. The musical terrain is harvested from a prog-garden of Kansas and Yes with dashes of Genesis and King Crimson tossed in for good measure. I guess if you want to call it a suprise then you could point to Steve Babb playing a serious pipe organ that reminds me of Wakeman's forrays on Going For The One. There is no concept this time around - just great songs including a cool progified cover of Dan Fogelberg's "Longer". The band lets it all hang out on the 20 minute opus "Behind The Great Beyond". At this point in time I don't think any other band does the old school prog thing as well as Glass Hammer. Highest recommendation.
