Glass Hammer - Three Cheers For The Broken Hearted

SKU SR2624
New album should be sub-titled "Back To The Roots". The band is essentially back down to Steve Babb and Fred Schendel - the way it all began. Actually the last comment is a bit misleading as Susie Bogdanowicz is still the lead vocalist. Like their earliest albums Steve and Fred shoulder all the instruments - Steve concentrating on bass and keys while Fred handles keys, guitar, and drums. The music of "Three Cheers" is still distinctly Glass Hammer but seems to be weighted more heavily towards the mellower side of the spectrum. The tunes are shorter and it doesn't have the heavy bombast of previous works. Fred's organ fantasies are MIA but Mellotron seems to be everywhere which is a good thing. Overall I think Glass Hammer's fans will be ready to offer their cheers as well.

Holy crap! Never thought I'd see the day when Glass Hammer went pop. I mean 11 songs in 50 minutes? In the days of old, 11 tracks would have required a double album. As far as pop music goes, though, they do a decent job here. Susie Bogdanowicz is good enough of a singer to carry this material and none of the songs are truly bad. There are prog moves scattered within the tracks but, truth be told, I can't see this one calling out to me for repeated listens. Leyth

I am A little Disappiointed in this release ,having all GH cds, im not very comfortable with every song with female vocals, Im not a big fan of female fronted bands (except for Rennaissance) the music is fine, just a little to mellow for me this time around.B.Ricci
