This was perhaps the first "world music" album. The Habibiyya was formed from the ashes of the UK jam band Mighty Baby. On a trip to Morocco, members of Mighty Baby became heavily interested in the Sufi religion and had a spiritual awakening. Hooking up with a couple of California based new age musicians they recorded this session for Island Records. Instrumentation is acoustic based featuring shakuhachi, hand drums, piano, drums, bina organ, flutes, viola, mandola, and guitar. There are definite similarities to some of Popol Vuh's more serene moments. This astonishing good sounding set comes with 5 unreleased tracks from the original sessions.
