Beautiful new album from Fabio Zuffanti. He has his hand in so many different projects that it becomes ard to differentiate one from the other. Hostsonaten is an outgrowth of Finisterre. Autumnsymphony is an all instrumental album that marries chamber music to classic progressive rock. Zuffanti plays many instruments, including a well represented Mellotron. He has a slew of invited musicians giving this a warm yet melancholy feel - very much fitting the title of the album. I don't know if Hostsonaten play live but this would certainly be a band to see in concert. Expressive electric guitar leads juxtaposed with cello, viola, trumpet and flute create tension between electric and acoustic instruments. Unpinning it all are the keyboards, tying it all together like musical glue. It has a bit of the feel of Trespass period Genesis. There is a lot to dig into here - it will take many listens. I sense it will get more and more rewarding. A total killer. Highly recommended.
