IQ - Frequency

SKU 28042
IQ fans are like any other prog fans - they argue back and forth over which is the "best" album. For some their last studio album Dark Matter was a disappointment, to others (like myself) it was a superb addition to their discography - one of their best works in fact. There was a bit of apprehension on the part of the IQ fanbase preceding the release of Frequency. Founder/keyboardist Martin Orford announced his departure from the band, to be replaced by Darwin's Radio's Mark Westworth. I can assure you that Frequency is not a let down in any way. In fact I think its outstanding...

There has always been an early Genesis influence in IQ's music - even going back to their first works. To these ears, Frequency amps up the Genesis feel - overall lots of retro sounds are wafting out of my speakers. Westworth goes heavy on the Mellotron, and Mike Holmes adds some effect acoustic work...I'm actually more reminded of Steve Hackett's Voyage Of The Acolyte more than anything else. Peter Nicholls does this thing - lots and lots of drama in his voice. 7 tracks of solid music that I think should assuage any fears IQ fans might have and should certainly demand the attention of any old school prog fan. Highly recommended.
