I have to admit I've never warmed up to Kayak. There was always a commercial gloss to their form of prog that put me off. The one exception was the Merlin suite from their old studio album way back when. Since reforming it seems as though the band has been reinvigorated. Ton Scherpenzeel has assembled some old and some new faces to record an expanded version of Merlin...with tremendous success. This immaculately produced album is a wonderful blend of old-school symphonic rock and neoprog. In other words there is something for everyone here. If you are a fan of Camel or Pendragon you need to own this. I can't believe in 2003 I'd be typing this but the new Kayak album is fantastic!
