Interesting story about this band. Apparently L'Estate Di San Martino existed in many incarnations during the 70s with their only released output a single for RCA in 1978 that sank without a trace. The primary function of the band was that of musicial accompaniment to a theatrical performance group. In 1982 two of the original members left and with an infusion of new musicians they put together this conceptual work about a fisherman and his metaphysical journey towards knowledge. The music relies heavily on the interplay between acoustic/electric 12 string guitar and flute. The keyboards tend to be a bit subued providing more atmosphere and textures rather than leads. Vocals are sung in Italian. Celeste, Genesis, and PFM are the first bands that come to mind. Alder is actually a live recording culled from two performances in Perugia, Italy on December 15 and 16, 1983. The sound quality is absolutely fine with rare intrusions of audience applause between songs (probably weren't too many people in attendance!). BTF has unearthed this archival release and done their usual superb job. Gorgeous packaging including a mini-lp sleeve design is filled out with a detailed booklet with lyrics and band history. Quite a nice discovery - highly recommended.
