Lande, Jorn - The Duke

SKU AFMCD106-2
New solo album from this vocal God is easily his best by a mile. Jorn is one of my favorite vocalists in hard rock and metal these days. He is a bit of a chameleon sounding a bit like Coverdale at times and at others he evokes Dio. The Duke would have to fall under the category of hard rock as opposed to metal. Frankly it's the mileu that I think he is most comfortable in - compare Ark vs Masterplan for example. His first two solo albums were pure AOR and not that appealing to me. This one is much heavier all around. Jorn Viggo Lofstad from Pagan's Mind is one of the guitarists. Morty Black from TNT plays bass, former bandmate Willy Bendiksen from The Snakes is the drummer and Rainbow/Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey is here as well. Solid effort and easily recommended to his fans.

There's no way around it, I admit to being a Jorn Lande fanboy! With that said, I've become a Jorn Viggo Lofstad fanboy since his appearance with Lande at ProgPower VII! Both Jorn's blow me away with their very different talents! With that said, I can't rate The Duke as high as I would Out To Every Nation. I agree with Ken, that this is a very well done hard rock disc. It's nothing less, nothing more. His previous effort seems to have more crunch, plus more time changes, etc. The Duke is a very good hard rock release for Jorn, but if you're new to his solo material, go with Out To Every Nation first. After that, buy the rest of his releases from The Laser's Edge. Brian from Gray, Tennessee
