Latest album from this eclectic French prog ensemble finds them stepping it up a notch. With all the hype of what a great live band they are, I've always found their CDs to fall a bit flat. This one is different. The band is led by Claude Leonetti who invented the Leode - a weird stringed instrument that sounds a bit like a Warr guitar. There is a Warr guitar player in the band as well as vibes, guitar, and percussion. The music has the typical French drama of bands like Ange but there is a distinct modern King Crimson influence as well. Add in a healthy dose of world music and you have something rather unique. With this needed dose of energy, Lazuli has really gotten their act together on this one. Highly recommended.
