Mackay, Duncan - Chimera

SKU FRESHED164
One of the greatest keyboard oriented prog albums of all time finally getting an official reissue. Many of you know Duncan Mackay from his work with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, and some of you may be familiar with his solo album called Score. Chimera is a little known album recorded in 1974 after the British keyboardist moved to South Africa. Only released in South Africa its taken on mythic status with prog fans. The music is HEAVILY influenced by ELP and The Nice. Mackay plays a multitude of keyboards, bass, and sings. His brother Gordon plays violin and keyboards, and Mike Gray is the drummer. The album consists of 3 epic length tracks in which Mackay clearly demonstrates this proficient abilities. Killer Hammond B3 and synth soloing through out - you will hear lots of similarities to Tarkus going on here. In my opinion, If there is any weak point to the album its that Mackay is a bit lightweight of a vocalist but to be honest there are so few vocals on the album that it isn't really much of an issue. Chimera was taken from the original master tapes and includes one unreleased seven minute bonus track. Time to throw away that Poorhouse bootleg disc - this is the real deal and quite welcome. Highest recommendation.
