I think Somewhere Else is one of Marillion's best albums, but it's also they're most chilled-out and ambient. Many of the people who aren't getting it aren't into more subdued, chilled out music. This album is definitely not a rocker, and while many of the songs have great, symphonic crescendos, they are much more about the slow, emotional buildup, which is done expertly.

I've been listening to Somewhere Else for about a week now and i can honestly say its worth buying .IMHO i think it's has good if not better then Marbles. It gets better with each listen. I love it that you have to work a bit at their music, you have to give it a chance to grab you.everything you want from Marillion… passion, perfection, darkness, touching lyrics . Highly recommended. Like all Marillion music, most of Somewhere Else may elude you at first, but it gets better with each successive listening. Original and highly creative chord changes and melodies that, once they get into your subconscious, will not go away and become more and more glorious each time you hear them. Steve Hogarth is at the top of his game with the vocals, from subtle to powerful, honest and emotional. Steve Rothery continues to come up with new and interesting approaches to playing the guitar, while maintaining his usual soulfulness. Great production on the drum sounds. Time may prove the title track to be the greatest thing the band has ever done. Brilliant!

The first half of this is pretty darn bad; I don't know what they were thinking. It gets a LOT better midway through. I can't imagine how anyone can think this is better than Marbles.

Ive been a Marillion Fan for years since their very first album. But this new cd is just awful. Weak lyrics, weak music.Sounds like a solo effort by Steve Hogarth. Very Poor to say the least. This is my last Marillion cd.......BR
