New 24 bit remastered reissue of the first album from this classic British prog album, originally released on Transatlantic in 1970. This one gets the full Mark Powell treatment and includes fresh liner notes from Fred Hasson. Marsupilami was a six piece ensemble focusing on organ, flute and guitar. The arrangements are pretty advanced, particularly for a 1970 release. The flute adds a jazz rock dimension to the music but there is a real energy to the guitar and organ that keeps this squarely in the rock genre. The 11 minute Ab Initio Ad Finem is a blitzkrieg of dark organ, drums, languid flute and feedback laced guitar this track is a stone cold killer. I had not played this album in years - I forgot how fantastic it is! Highest recommendation.
