NeBeLNeST - NoVa eXPReSS

SKU RUNE154

New label - new album! I swapped 'em with Cuneiform for a six of Golden Monkey ale and a pack of Luckies.

NeBeLNeST continues to devastate with their high energy Zeuhl laced progressive fury. Cyril Malderez Frippified guitar solos simply burn just like the title of the album - a total nova express. Leader Olivier Tejedor has expanded his keyboard array experimenting more with samples, odd sounds, and plenty of interplay with Cyril. Olivier's brother Gregory is the bassist and shines bright in all his Top-influenced glory. Once again the propulsive force known as Michael Anselmi is simply a dynamo behind the drum kit. If you caught NeBeLNeST at any of their US shows you saw the 15 minute title track which may well be their finest moment. The album was produced by Bob Drake. The sound is more precise and detailed than their debut. Sexy artwork provided by the distinguished Bill Ellsworth. Time to sit back, crack open a cold Monkey and hit repeat!! Highest recommendation.

After a lifetime of listening to Prog, it seems that all roads led to this album. Outstanding use of authentic mellotron texturing over rich guitar work of altering styles. Not the most complex playing, but some of the most thoughtful, deep compositions. I have always been partial to instrumental music. Some of the greatest music in the world has been ruined by singers. Thank you NeBeLNeST for not ruining this with a singer.

NeBeLNeST are a instrumental French band with a somewhat post-rock style. The instrumentation is top notch, especially the drummer who exhibits a great ability to use varied percussion and styles. The music is of a heavy style, a bit remenicient of Anakedoten in that the same style of distored Rickenbacher bass is present throughout most of the songs. The guitarist definitely channels the King Crimson sound from Robert Fripp. The guitar lines are very inventive and often quite atonal sounding. The keyboards include mellotrons and analog synths. And just with the guitar work, the keyboard work is also very inventive and at times quite atonal. This is quite an wild and entertaining ride not for the faint of heart. This is esoteric music at its best.
