Nemesea - The Quiet Resistance

SKU NPR385
Nemesea's career path has been a bit uneven but now appears to be on the upswing. The band is fronted by Manda Ophuis. She's the total package - great voice and looks to match. Their debut release, Mana, was cut from the gothic metal cloth that so many Dutch bands seem to be attracted to. The band toured around with After Forever and attracted a bit of a buzz. Instead of signing with a label, they went the indie route and self released their next album, In Control. To be kind let's just say it was a real clunker. The band metamorphosed into a alt rock/pop band - kind of like a Dutch version of Paramore. The Quiet Resistance finds them moving back in the direction of Mana but only in a general way. The band is obviously influenced by Evanescence, Delain and the newer style of Within Temptation. (In fact there is a nice guest appearance by Charlotte Wessels). It's catchy and filled with hooks but there is a heaviness present that was missing on In Control. The production has a very modern feel with undercurrents of electronica/industrial metal. Its obvious a lot of money went into the production of the album. With their association with Napalm Records it appears that the band has righted the ship and they are now working in the metal realm again. Personally I would have liked to hear them creating their own identity but on the other hand, the previous album showed that it didn't work so well. If you are a fan of Evanescence, Within Temptation or Delain you should definitely check this out.
