Here is a new killer symphonic rock band from Norway. Well maybe not so new actually. In The Mist Of Morning was originally conceived as a band demo in 2007 and then remixed and released in late 2010. The mover and shaker behind Nordagust is guitarist/keyboardist Daniel Solheim who has a hand in the writing of all of the material.
The best way to describe Nordagust is to say that it sounds very Scandinavian: lush symphonics with gobs of Mellotron and dark atmosphere. While not sounding overtly like Anglagard, Landberk or Wobbler it evokes a similar mood. Nordagust also draws from medieval music, with dulcimer, mandolin appearing prominently. Yeah the Northern European countries just seem to be brimming over with melancholy and Nordagust has tons of it. There is a perfect storm going on here: cold production, Mellotron, sustained Hackettesque guitar leads, and plaintive, angst filled vocals. I can't get enough of this stuff! Highly recommended.
