O'Donnell, Joe - Gaodhol's Vision (Digipak)

SKU CAPO 505
Joe O'Donnell is not too well known in prog circles but he should have more of your attention. He is an Irish violinist. Originally he was a member of Mushroom (many of you remember Early One Morning) and also was in East Of Eden. His name turns up as a session player on a lot of English rock albums in the 70s. He made this instrumental Celtic prog concept album in 1975 and to be honest I never knew it came out on CD. The album was produced by Jon Field of Jade Warrior and engineered by Tom Newman. Rory Gallagher appears as guest guitarist and Field himself plays flute and bass. Lots of keys and guitar but violin takes center stage. There are some gorgeous orchestrated parts to the album. Some of this has high energy and other parts are mellow and a bit folky but the Celtic vibe is always present. One can only imagine how much this disc cost Polydor to record back in the day. Highly recommended.
