Odyssey - Reinventing The Past

SKU VIC035
"What a surprise. Dan Swano covers 7 of his all time fave songs, including covers from U.F.O., URIAH HEEP, CANDLEMASS, MSG, RAINBOW, Sandra and DEPECHE MODE! Bonus to the album is the 1999 three track E.P.(remastered). All instruments played by Dan Swanö, while the production was done at Unisound, Örebro, Sweden. So this another cover album which includes RAINBOW “Eyes of the world”, DEPECHE MODE and other artists in mostly Goth driven covers. A stunning cover of CANDLEMASS “At gallows end” and brave too, incorporating a more Gothic-metal melancholy to a classic Doom song. You can listen also at “Gypsy” by URIAH HEEP and MSG cover of “Lost horizons”. The keyboards and the electronic rhythms play most important part at songs like “In the heat of the night” an already popular song, to get covered at the Goth metal circles. While others are simple more “dark” covers of classic Hard rock songs. So this mis the more pop side of Swano, the more dark and melodic, yet still very interesting.

But the real bonus here is the inclusion of a long deleted ep. Back in 1999, Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based Utopian Vision Music released a three-song self-titled EP by ODYSSEY, a band featuring Swedish multi-instrumentalist/producer Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH), Rick Gustafson (ex-MEMORY GARDEN), and Kenth Philipsson (DARK FUNERAL, THE PROJECT HATE). The EP has long been out of print and is a much-sought-after collector's item. Now you can get the songs along with the various covers which were meant to used to various of Swano’s projects but never made it.

An album worth exploring mostly for the covers, in my humble opinion and the twited way of using a melody, Swano has and implies at his songs." - Metal Invader
