Leave it to Long Hair Records to dig up another unknown German band from the 70s. Papa Zoot existed for a couple of years (73-74), kicking around Germany but never making it big. This disc was recorded at a reunion concert in 1978, and it finds all the original members playing their standard repertoire. The opening track doesn't really distinguish itself but when the band cranks up the 20 minute "Fly Away" they really take things in overdrive. There is a distinct Pink Floyd sound going on here, mainly thanks to organist Reinhard Grohe (ex-Nosferatu). This is a killer space jam and worth the price of the disc by itself. So where Papa Zoot Band really distinguishes itself is in the long jamming tracks of which there are many. At times there is a distinct quirkiness that bears similarity to Grobscnitt - particularly in the vocals. Supposedly Long Hair is going to release a disc of their SWF sessions at some point. I'm sure its going to be great.
