Recorded in 1971, this is Terje Rypdal's first album for ECM and its still fresh sounding. It was a transitional period for him as he still approaches this session as a rock player. He uses tons of distortion and effects, sounding quite different than he did later on. There is a stellar cast of musicians including Jan Garabarek, Bob Stenson, Arild Andersen, Jon Christensen among others. Serious blowing through out. Long tracks filled with dynamic twists in turns from controlled, near psychedelic, guitar freak outs to spacious atmospherics. I'm a huge fan of Rypdal's 70s output and this is one of his best.
OK here's the downside. It's expensive. Like most of the Rypdal catalog, this is no longer available in the US. It is a full priced German import of a generally expensive to begin with label. The bad exchange rates don't help. If you can swing it you will be rewarded with an album that will blow your mind.
