"Vikings are fearless warriors! That is something everybody knows. And this battalion Vikings which marched into my cd-player is no exception to that rule. There were their ancestors created themselves a way from Russia to the Black Sea and Constantinople, surrounded Western Europe and pierced to The Mediterranean Sea, Sabaton is at the start of their conquest. In February 2002 Sabaton recorded the cd ‘Metalizer’. Two years of performing and waiting for the release of the cd, the band decided to take control over their future and recorded ‘Primo Victoria’. With their new album in their hands they started negotiations with several interested companies and after several months the band decided to sign for Sound Pollutions metal division Black Lodge. No guys who quit when problems occur, but who combative persevere.
Sabaton play intense, uncomplicated power metal and overwhelm you with the same persuasiveness as their historical progenitors. With vocalist Joakim as their main commander, who with his raw vocals pushes the music on, on all tracks different themes regarding war are being discussed. ‘Primo Victoria’ is about D-day, ‘Counterstrike’ about the Six Day War and ‘Stalingrad’ … indeed about the battle for Stalingrad. Well, that’s something different than the usual boring history class at school! The heavy songs heavy are always with melody and characterizes itself by a tight rhythm section, intriguing guitars, every now and then some catching lyrics and the previously named raw vocals. Although keyboards are being used, they are far from prevailing; very subtle in the background they are present. It let every song keeps it’s brutality and energy. For a band with so many young members (ages differ between 21 and 24) brilliantly achieved!
There where my ancestors probably would have recklessly fled by seeing a clan of Vikings approaching, I welcome them with open arms! This is a very nice acquaintance with these Vikings and I am sure that they will find their way to my cd-player time and time again!"
