Big change in direction on this Italian band's third release. Eschewing the neoclassical elements that predominated their earlier efforts, Secret Sphere has added strong elements of progressive metal to their sound. The music seems to emphasize melody and complexity a bit more than in the past. When you listen to the disc you don't really think in terms of Angra or Rhapsody - it's more like Dream Theater and Queensryche as the foundations of their style. They even toss in some saxophone in a sporadic, schizophrenic way that didn't quite gel for me. All in all it's quite well done but the change over in style has thrown me for a bit of a loop. After "A Time Never Comes" I had this band earmarked for greatness and now they've taken a step sideways instead of up. Oh well...at least it's not a step back.
