Sireena Records is a German reissue label that has flown under our radar for some time now. The label is now focusing on German progressive rock titles from the 70s. Luckily for us all they have struck a deal with Sky Records to do deluxe official reissues of some of their best titles - none of which have ever appeared on CD before.
Shaa Khan was a German six piece that recorded two relatively obscure album for Sky and probably would have attained greater attention in the US had JEM Records stayed in business a bit longer (they were the #1 music importer at the time). The World Will End Of Friday was the band's first album, released in 1978. The band owes a heavy debt in equal parts to Eloy, Grobscnitt and Genesis. There are some similarities to early Faithful Breath as well. While I would never say that they were carving out new territory, The World Will End On Friday is a minor classic for sure. Great spacey interludes, dramatic vocals, with great stinging guitar solo climaxes. I would say that this is my reissue of the year...if it wasn't for the fact that the Sloche albums are coming out shortly. Nicely packaged with a detailed booklet (someone should have helped the band out a bit with the English translation). A little dated sounding...a ton of charm...more than a heaping of nostalgia...and highly recommended.
