On the heels of Pathosray we have another great debut from Italy. Kind of a strange story here. Soul Secret are based out of Napoli, Italy. The band's vocalist Michele Serpico wrote the lyrics and vocal arrangements but for some reason he doesn't sing on the album. Instead the band brought in a ringer to do the job - former Mind Key vocalist Mark Basile! This is killer old school prog metal along the lines of Dream Theater et al. The Italians seem to have an affinity for this (think back to bands like Zen, Mystere De Notre Dame, Time Machine, early Eldritch). This one is a real chopsfest and the keys are way out in front the way I like 'em. The album is capped off with a 17 minute monster "Tears Of Kalliroe". This one is symphonic to the max and is the album's standout. Highly recommended.
