Upon his departure from Stratovarius, guitarist Timo Tolkki gave the remaining members of the band his blessing to carry on under the existing moniker. He was replaced by Finnish wunderkind Matias Kupianen. The resulting album sounds just like Stratovarius - nothing has really changed. In fact if truth be told, Polaris is probably better than recent efforts that were sounding pretty tired. I've never been much of a fan of this band but at least I can say that this disc seems to have some liveliness to it.
