First time this has been officially released on CD. This is the first album from Strawbs, originally released in 1969. The band had shortened their name from Strawberry Hill Boys in which they had recorded with Sandy Denny. At the time they were only the trio of Dave Cousins, Tony Hooper and Ron Chesterman. Although there are a lot of prog undercurrents this is very much a traditional British folk album. Some of the pieces like "The Man Who Called Himself Jesus" and the prog oriented "The Battle" have been resurrected over the years in their live sets. This remastered edition comes with 3 tracks recorded for John Peel's Top Gear BBC radio show. As long as you don't expect Ghosts or Hero or Heroine and know what you are getting yourself into there is plenty to enjoy.
