What Lies Beneath is the second solo album from Tarja since her departure from Nightwish. Not too dissimilar to My Winter Storm, the album mixes metal with classical and even pop elements. There is a bit of schmaltz here and there but overall its a pretty damn good disc. A lot of the riffs have an obvious Iommi style. The album features some odd guest artists including Joe Satriani and Will Calhoun. I expected not to like this but by the end of the album I was sucked in. Key track = "Dark Star". This was a killer for me. Highly recommended.
