To-Mera - Transcendental

SKU CDL0169CD
New band put together by former Elitist label man Lee Barrett and his paramour Julie Kiss, ex-vocalist of the band Without Face. The presentation looks gothic but it has much more of a progressive side than you would expect. Kiss sings in a soundspace which seems a bit removed from the rest of the band - in that respect it reminds me a bit of Aghora (without any of the ethnic influences they had). The disc is filled with the requiste crunch and polyrhythms but from my perspective the real surprise is keyboardist Hugo Sheppard. His use of piano caters to the band's darker gothic side. In a strange way his classical leanings remind me of John Tout, the former Renaissance keysman. I think To-Mera needs to fine tune the production side on their next disc to make the whole think more organic sounding. Having said that this is a hell of a debut and one of the most enjoyable prog metal albums I've heard this year. Highly recommended.

Very inventive & varied. Technical w/o being tedious. Incredible range of tempos & of course great vocals sans cookie monster counter-point!

This is another Incredible Female Fronted Progressive Metal Band hailing from UK. I love the contrast between the angelic female voice and the ever brutal metal music. A must have for any progressive metal fans who craves for female voice in the male dominated metal world. A blending with jazz elements with metal at different parts of the album. I dare you to listen to To-Mera!! Be mindful as To-Mera does not take no for an answer ever!!

I tried, really tried to like this but you must relish female fronted metal bands to fully appreciate andenjoy this album. Musically it is very good, technicaly it is excellent (especially the drumming). It does lack some guitar solos to break up some of the tracks but it is the vocals I really can't cope with. Not to say she doesn't have a good voice, just not for me. Lovers of Nightwish and other female fronted bands will go nuts on this i'm sure and its a blind purchase for you. Well at least I gave it a go!
