Oklahoma based progressive metal band Vangough comes up with a high concept album. Game On is an instrumental album. All of the music is inspired by Nintendo games of the 1990's. Its still 100% Vangough - the music is full on progressive metal/rock. This is not a new direction for the band (they are in the studio preparing their next effort). It's simply a pet side project of band leader Clay Withrow.

Good solid slab of prog metal/rock here. Vangough's debut "Manikin Parade" is nothing like this new release which is 100% instrumental. Largely based on themes from video games, that unique aspect also presents somewhat of a limitation because it is difficult to take the bulk of the compositions seriously. Don't get me wrong, these guys play their butts off and this is still a pretty rocking CD for driving around with the top down. Leyth
