White Willow - Terminal Twilight

SKU LE1060
"In a prog world where quality is too often measured through virtuosity alone, White Willow embodies the simple and uncertain beauty of shadows." – allmusic.com

Their 1995 debut “Ignis Fatuus” was one of the sparks that reignited the moribund progressive rock scene. Through five albums White Willow has gone through a variety of lineup and stylistic changes but always stayed true to their roots.

Terminal Twilight is the band’s long awaited sixth album. It finds them with a new lineup – now with Anglagard drummer Mattias Olsson and the return of vocalist Sylvia Erichsen. Terminal Twilight also features a guest appearance by Tim Bowness (No Man). All of the White Willow trademarks are in place: chiming guitar chords, flute, Mellotrons and songs about sad people. The North American release features an exclusive bonus track “The Howling Wind”.

This is just great music. Reminds me of Gabriel compositions (Intruder era) with female singer. Excellent drums as well.

To quote Todd Rundgren: If you've got a pair of headphones you better get 'em out and get 'em cranked up cause they're really gonna help you on this one. In other words this is a sonic marvel. Beautiful, dark and sometimes quite weird this is as classic as it gets for White Willow. A gorgeous and strange trip that recalls classic records like Ex Tenebris and Sacrament (perhaps due to two returning band members from those albums)and...in my humble opinion...eclipses the new Steven Wilson record. This is classic Scandinavian melancholia that fills the mind with images of wintry nights and the warmth of autumn fires then bitch slaps you into cosmic prog rock freakouts. Call a friend, put Terminal Twilight on the hi-fi, spark up a spliff and enjoy. -Jim Lewis
