After a 3 1/2 year absence this long running German band led by Alex Krull have created a concept album based on Atlantis. The music has a real epic, symphonic feel but is extremely sinister sounding. The coarse vocals aren't really my bag but somehow it seems to fit the music well.

New full length album from this talented Los Angeles band. Clandestine are fronted by June Park but the band eschews the typical gothic metal trappings. Mixed by Sylvia Massey, Clandestine blends modern/alt rock with progressive metal. Think Lacuna Coil melded with Dream Theater.

Modern aggro/metal band put together by Soilwork vocalist Bjorn Strid and former Blind Guardian (and current Savage Circus) drummer Thomas Stauch. This one is filled with mega-crunch, hooks, electronic blasts and a mix of clean and coarse vocals. It's a mix of Mnemic and Disturbed.

German melodic power metal band recorded at the studio of Jan Vacik - keyboardist of Dreamscape. Nothing groundbreaking here but there is a definite Queenryche feel with vocalist Christian Grater catching a Geoff Tate vibe.

Downtuned metal from Finland. All the prerequisite gothic elements are present - symphonic keys, male/female vox, violin, etc. What was surprising was the emphasis placed on melodies. This is a strong point other bands should consider...

"Entwine are back and they’re heavier than ever! The five-piece from Finland doesn’t need an introduction anymore, for years they’ve been around and their CDs have found their way into every gothic girl’s or melodic rock/metal fan’s CD board.

This one arrived at Casa Laser's Edge not long after another Italian band Solid Vision. I guess there is a resurgence of progressive metal bands from Italy and if history is a judge then it's a most welcome thing. Exawatt play progressive metal with touches of power.

New melodic metal band put together by Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson. More of an emphasis here on hooks and groove than any complexity. Pass.

Traditional US power metal from this Brooklyn based band that has been kicking around for some time and have now hooked up with LMP. 80s metal perfect for folk that like songs about "fire in the sky", "running out of time" and having "no place to run".

Long delayed latest from this great Italian prog metal band is kind of strange. It's a 2cd release but only totals about 40 minutes of music - half of which are covers including Iron Maiden's Stranger In A Strange Land.

Second album from this Swedish band where were formerly known as Evergrace. Not sure why the name change. The band's specialty is melodic power metal with a dark twist. Kind of strange for what I think is a Xian band.

Fifth album from this (apparently) popular power metal band from Romania. The band is fronted by Ana Mladinovici, who has a very nice voice albeit with a slight accent. She doesn't have the range of Tarja - her voice is more along the lines of Sabine Edelsbacher of Edenbridge.
