Often things happen in an adjacent musical universe that we are not aware of but perhaps we should be more attentive to. Such is the case with my general interest in the jam band scene.

Sometimes albums fall out of the sky - completely unexpected. I first heard mention of Regna from Scot Lade's The Prog Corner youtube review. He was spooging over the album. He had me curious. Next thing I know customers are emailing me asking if we'll stock it. Now I had to hear it.

So here's a new prog rock band that came out of nowhere and are already kicking ass and taking names later. Z Machine hail from the UK. Their lineup consists of two guitars, sax/flute, bass and drums. Stylistically they rely on a heavy prog rock sound with an injection of jazz rock.

Asbury Park, NJ's finest are back after a long hiatus. I'll more or less repeat what I said about their previous release, The Dreams That Stuff Are Made Of:

Time and time again, Italy's The Watch prove they are the pre-eminent Genesis influenced band going today. Vocalist Simone Rosetti sounds just like Peter Gabriel and the band's instrumentation carefully follows the mid-70s sound. Its all original music but definitely has Genesis in its DNA.

"Sailing back into the world of classic neo-prog is a dangerous voyage for any band. Many have tried but most crash against the rocks of hackneyed ideas and the slavish adherence to sounds of days gone by.

Seattle based Moon Letters' 2019 debut "Until They Feel The Sun" was a bit of a revelation for us. Three years later the band has released their sophomore album "Thank You From The Future" and its a bit different. While its definitely a prog rock album its a bit less retro sounding.

Totally unknown instrumentral trio from Brazil consisting of Alayr Júnior (drums), Jameson Trezena (bass), and Emerson Ribas (guitar). They have zero social media presence or even a webpage. All I can tell you is these guys shred like nobody's business.

This Seattle based prog band was unknown to me until the announcement that they would be a featured artist at Rosfest in 2020. Of course I had to check them out and I was in for a big surprise. This is old school prog right in my wheelhouse.

Looking Glass Lantern is the nom de guerre for multi-instrumentalist Graham Dunnington. This is his fourth album. Like the previous outings this is full on retro-prog. Musically I'm reminded quite a bit of Steve Hackett's solo work but with an injection of Victorian/steam punk flavor.
